After many months of preparation, a Straight Track Mechanical Lure Coursing Demonstration was run at Capalaba yesterday.
Supporters kindly lent there time, assistance and dogs for the event to take place.
We thank Michael Chapman for his efforts over the last few weeks in bringing his 2 dogs - Lardy and Smokey - to Capalaba so that a slipper could be trained and so a couple of dogs would have a fair idea of what there were doing.
Lardy and Smokey were like seasoned campaigners. After only 3 practice slips over the last few weeks, both of these dogs, they left slips brilliantly. The run was perfect with only a half length between them at the finish. This shows just how easy it is to get these dogs used to the slipping leads.
We also thank Alec Stevens who brought his old timer - Jack's Judge (Lucky) out for a run. Lucky has never done this type of racing before and came out like he was a pro. Also King Kissy owned by Rick O'Donnell was paired up with Lucky and had a few anxious moments, but ran on gamely in the course.
This pair had never been released from slipping leads before, and although there was a bit of hop, skip and jumping, this pair once away from the slipper, did their best for the rest of the run.
We also thank Alec Stevens for his expert advice in the slipping formalities, and also Ray Lambert (usually the starter at the boxes) for his newly acclaimed skills as a slipper.
A few changes will be made when the actual official events are staged. One important part that we will endeavour to change will be to introduce a decoy lure that will be thrown into the catching pen when the dogs run into the pen.
Anyone who has interest in participating in these events are asked to give us there support by using the VOTING for on the SUPPORT page.
