IMPORTANT CHANGES 27.06.09 by Bob Patching
The Capalaba Committee met on Tuesday and have approved the following changes commencing from Saturday 4th July.

There will be an increase in concession entry to the track from $2.20 to $3.30.

Trials:
There will be no increase to Capalaba members.

There will be an increase of $1 for members of the QGBOTA for the first dog in any one trial. If the trainer is trialling two or three dogs together then there is no increase for additional dogs. Dogs trialled separately are subject to the $1 increase.
There will be a $2 increase per trial for non-members. If the trainer is trialling two or three dogs in the same trial there is no increase for the additional dogs. Dogs trialled separately are subject to the $2 increase.

The way to avoid price increases is to become a Capalaba member. There is an application in the race book and membership is cost effective as it provides for free entry on race days a race book and cost of trials will remain the same.

There will be no prize money for fourth place as from 4th July. Currently dogs place 4th receive $20.

Fourth prize money was introduced a few years ago paid for by the TAB turnover commission which was running at between $2,500 to $2,700 per week. Average TAB turnover on a Saturday has dropped to approximately $1200 per Saturday. Therefore it is no possible for the club to continue to pay 4th prize money.

The committee considered an increase in bar prices but this was rejected. The only increases will be the CPI imposed by the government which occurs every 6 months.
MACLEAN BOY LANDS YOUNG GUNS 06.06.09
MACLEAN Boy could be set for the up-coming Grafton Sprinters Cup.
Part-owner and trainer Bill Warner said this today after the Black Enforcer-Black Eye Dooley dog had led virtually throughout to win the Capalaba Young Guns final.
He ran 20.20 on a slow track to score by three-quarters of a length over Hugo Fast with a neck to Wear It All in third.
It was his sixth win in 13 starts and his fourth in seven runs up Capalaba.
He had already been a Capalaba Derby finalist.
"The one-turn track at Grafton will really suit him and we'll look at taking him to the Sprinters Cup during the July carnival," said Bill Warner.
Bill gave all the credit for the victory to his wife Jan.
Warner is a computer genius for Telstra and is required in Melbourne every second week.
"Jan steps up all the time to work with the dogs," he said.
"She did point out he ran 19.70 under her training last week in his heat win and 20.20 today in the final when I've been putting the polish on him all week."
Maclean Boy was bought as a pup from breeder Barry Dull.
He is a son of Dull's former Bundaberg Cup winner Black Eye Dooley.
The winner started 5-2 favourite after drifting from his opening quote of 2-1.
"We bet away," said Warner.
Club president Alec Stevens handled the trophy presentation with his usual aplomb. "You can call me the Pom with aplomb," he said later.
"That Bill Warner is certainly having a lucky trot."
BOY! THAT WAS A RUN 01.06.09
ASTUTE trainer Peter Wilson believes Karmazz will be the big improver for the Capalaba Young Guns final next Saturday.
Karmazz (Hallucinate-Go Stanley) had not raced since April 7 when injured at Albion Park before running 20.13 in his Young Guns heat win last Saturday.
"He sprained a hock when he got chopped out as he was looming up to win at Albion Park," Wilson's kennel media manager Elaine Klaassen said today.
Karmazz has won five of nine starts.
"He's only been back in work for three weeks and we've had to keep him just to straight work," said Elaine.
"There will be a lot of improvement in him for the final."
There will have to be because Capalaba specialist Maclean Boy, from the in-form Bill Warner kennel, ran a scorching 19.70 in his heat win.
"There was a significant difference in the head wind factor between the two heats on Saturday," said Klaassen. "Our dog was running into a hurricane. Maclean Boy's head wind wasn't as strong as a breath."
Klaassen believes Karmazz could be the undoing of quite a few in the final.
"He's got the two in the final and we would have rathered wider," she said. "He caused a lot of carnage in the heat and wiped out Gnarley Boy.
"He wants to get to the centre of the track."
Karmazz is one of three Wilson has in work for leading owner Lynne Ivanovic.
He got the dog off breaking in and believes he will continue to get better with racing.
Maclean Boy (Black Enforcer-Black Eye Dooley) came off the eight box in his heat win but has come up with the four in the final although he does have almost six lengths advantage on the other heat.
Owner-trainer Bill Warner is supremely confident of his dog.
"Look at the times ... look at the times," he said of the comparison between the two heats.
"I've got this dog absolutely flying at the moment."
CAPALABA NEWS 27.05.09 by Bob Patching
The greyhound industry owes a vote of thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers who have worked tremendously well to ensure that our meeting for the 30th May goes ahead.
Approximately 500 man hours has been utilised to bring the track and facilities up to a standard where we could conduct a race meeting.

I meet with the Redland Shire Council and representatives of the junior soccer club on Wednesday morning to discuss issues concerning the track and surrounds. The council will be meeting with representatives of Water Resources to press for a better management of water release into the creek during heavy rain. Currently this is managed centrally and the timing has been poor as it often coincides with incoming and high tides. I have informed the council that if there is no progress within the next fortnight I will be using my political contacts built up over 30 years in the Australian Electoral Commission to bring the matter to a head.

Another issue discussed at the meeting with council was their intention to proceed as soon as possible with a fence between the road to the boxes and the football field. This should provide for better safety during Sunday trials over the football season.

I want to start a register of all persons who may be able to give some time for working bee if we are flooded again. We would be grateful if you could give us even an hour of your time during these setbacks. Please provide contact details below if you are available and hand it in to the bar.

Trialling is off until further notice.
There will be a working bee all day on Friday and Saturday.
"Whether we can race on Saturday week will depend on the support we get to those working bees," said secretary manager Bob Patching.

CAPALABA TO RACE 06.04.09
CAPALABA will race as normal on Saturday (April 11). Club secretary manager Bob Patching reports repairs are well underway on the damaged catching pen area. Nominations close as usual for this Saturday's meeting.
CAPALABA WORKING BEE 04.04.09
CAPALABA club needs help to clean up after flooding at the track on Friday night.
Club secrtary manager Bob Patching has called for a working bee starting at 7am on Sunday.
A tree fell onto the catching pen on Friday afternoon and forced the race meeting on Saturday to be abandoned.
"It fell across a corner of the pen and was lucky to miss the lure driving tower," said Bob. "If it had hit the tower we wouldn't have raced for a month."
Patching said Redland Council called in a backhoe to remove the tree and had to pull down a section of the catching pen fence that was not damaged just to be able to get at the tree.
"When I arrived at the track at 7.30 this monring, I had to wade through waist deep water to get to the office," said Bob.
The club has already called off all trials this week.
"We need as many people to the working bee as possible," said Patching. "Bring along brooms, shovels and rakes."
CAPALABA MEETING OFF 03.04.09
SATURDAY'S race meeting at Capalaba has been abandoned.
The heavy rainfall in Brisbane on Thursday caused a tree to fall into the catching pen area at the track.
This caused considerable damage to the pen and its fencing.
Secretary manager Bob Patching said Redland Shire Council will need to be involved in the repairs.
Trials on Sunday are also off.
Fresh nominations will be called for the meeting on April 11.
A phantom meeting will be held at Capalaba tomorrow, given that it was a designated race meeting for the club.
FAREWELL BERNIE & RACE CALLERS DAY AT CAPALABA 14.03.09
Good afternoon everyone,

I wanted to take this opportunity to once again pass on my and our sincere THANKS for your support of the Bernie Culey Farewell & Racecallers’ Race Day at Capalaba last Saturday afternoon.

I think it's safe to say that we all had an enjoyable time and went home after a good ‘feed & watering’, and most importantly, I know that Bernie & his family had a great day as well!

It was great that representatives from Greyhounds Queensland Ltd & the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club – as well as our other sponsors – were able to take some time out to get along on the day to say goodbye to Bernie. Personally, I also hope we can schedule a Racecallers’ Day at least once per year from here on in, as I believe it created a great spectacle and something that little bit different on the day.

I feel that without the generous support of each of the sponsors the day wouldn’t have turned out as successful as it was, and judging by the feedback of both guests and other industry participants, I feel we can safely say we achieved the desired result. To have attracted fields for a 10 event program (first time at Capalaba in quite a while) was wonderful, and a truly fitting way to recognize Bernie’s contribution to the Club over the past 11 years. I also heard several favourable comments on the trophies which were awarded to the winners (and momentos to the Racecallers) on the day, so I wish to thank and acknowledge the efforts of Debbie Willicombe from ‘Greyhounds Aussie Style’ for her hard work in arranging and etching the trophies on our behalf. Thanks also to Di & Rick from ‘Just Greyhound Photos’ for their assistance in co-ordinating the presentations and photos.
I look forward to catching up with each of you sometime soon.

Kindest regards,
Anthony Jeffress & Paul Luca
CHANGE AT CAPALABA - 20.02.2009
Our manager Bernie Culey is retiring on March 28 and Bob Patching will start on March 2 to ensure am easy transition.
The new track curator Adrian Gates has things under control, and if needed has Brian Bretherton to help.
The Bernie Culey farewell meeting will be on March 14 with an extra $50 on each race. Heats of the main race on March 7. This will be the Racecallers day.
The canteen is being run by the GBOTA and there are plenty of good reports on the food they are supplying.
I would like to remind trainers that trials don’t stop because of rain, only if water is let go from the dam, which is a rare occasion.
Don’t forget there are superb photos available of your dog winning from Rick at the track.
